With the 3D Master approach, all the elements usually shown on the definition plans for parts and assemblies are incorporated in the 3D digital mock-up, using the same standardised symbol system: dimensional and geometric tolerances, technological and physical characteristics, process for obtaining, etc.
The 3D Master provides quick and easy access to all of this information, which can be directly used by completely integrated applications for tolerance analysis, definition of manufacture and assembly process, transfer of dimensional information, off-line programming of measuring machines, metrology, etc.
Benefits
Using the 3D definition as the single master reference for the product allows the quality of the product definition to be enhanced. Inconsistencies between the 3D digital mock-up definition and 2D drawing assemblies are eliminated.
The 3D Master approach also allows the quality of the geometric definition to be improved, by aiding the designer with the definition of standardised geometric specifications (dimensional and geometric tolerances). The specification details are stored and allow:
- Elimination of interpretation and re-keying errors in the geometrical specifications needed for tolerance analysis, manufacture and dimensional control applications.
- Automatic validation and completeness checks of geometrical specifications for any geometrical modification or change to the tolerance system, in accordance with international standards (ISO 16792:2006 Technical Product documentation - Digital Product Definition data practices) and U.S. standards (ASME Y14.41-2003 Digital Product Definition Data Practices).
V5 Products
3D Functional Tolerancing and Annotations (FTA): Allows creation and management of geometrical specifications (dimensional and geometric tolerances including management of their meaning, roughness) and annotations (notes, symbols, etc.).
2D Layout for 3D Design (LO1): Defines a 3D model by means of a 2D conceptual approach. DMU Dimensioning and Tolerancing Review (DT1): Provides visualisation, filtering and querying (links between annotations and geometry) of specifications defined with FTA, in visualisation or editing mode, allows pages defined with LO1 to be viewed or printed.
Generative Drafting (GDR): Generates drawings using views defined with FTA or LO1. Manufacturing Tolerancing Assistant (MTT): Dimensional data transfer tool allowing manufacturing tolerances to be defined and managed.
3DCS (CAA Partner): Produces several tolerance analysis products that are completely integrated with CATIA V5.
Sigmetrix (CAA Partner): Produces the Cetol 6 Sigma tolerance analysis product that is completely integrated with CATIA V5.
Metrologic Group (CAA Partner): Produces an offline measuring machine programming product (SILMA V5) and a metrology product (METROLOG V5).
